André started playing instruments when 19 years old, while studying architecture…
He began his music studies on electric bass, with Arthur Maia and Yuri Popoff, in Rio de Janeiro. Almost at the same time, he started on the acoustic bass with the great teacher, Sandrino Santoro.

André have worked with great musicians, since his professional life had begun… He played and recorded with, among others:
In MPB: Leny Andrade, MPB-4 , Quarteto em Cy, Pery Ribeiro, Maria Bethânia, Lulu Santos, Gilberto Gil, Marina Lima, Gabriel, o Pensador, Sandra de Sá, Ed Motta, Kid Abelha, Fernanda Abreu, Leoni;

In Brazilian Jazz: Paulo Moura, Gilson Peranzzetta, Arthur Maia, Ricardo Silveira, Léo Gandelman, Raul Mascarenhas, Claudinho Infante, Guilherme Dias Gomes, Torquato Mariano, Paulo Braga, Carlos Balla e Vittor Santos Orquestra.

André Rodrigues is actually bass player of the brazilian singer and composer Vanessa da Mata.
André also recorded his first solo album as a leader, called "Codificado", where he played his own tunes with a lot of good musicians and friends.

When a member of FOCO, a quartet, that plays instrumental and acoustic jazz, with Marcelo Martins, Renato Massa and João Castilho. FOCO has two cds, the last one is called "Tempo Bom Com Chuva", released in 2007 at the Dubas Music label.

As an educator, with his vast experience as a sideman to many of the greatest names in brazilian music, André is a co-founder, along with João Castilho and Renato Massa Calmon, of the project "Toque Junto", released by the well known Brazilian publishing company, Lumiar Editora. It is a play-along series dedicated to educating ensembles, in how to achieve good performances in group situations.
