"the
possibility of popularizing songs that were once restricted to the São
Paulo underground. celebrating dance and the band. the text and the
swing. the patience of mazzola (the album's producer and 'owner' of
the mza label) and the complicity of marcos mainard (president of record
company polygram at the time) were fundamental. had it been any other
way, it would have been impossible to include such songs as 'anjo da
vanguarda' and 'mpb's ' ; and once again include lanny and a special
appearance by bakhiti kumalo, the african bass player. the chorus of
friends in 'folia de príncipe' hinted at the course of the days
to come. the success of 'mama áfrica' and 'à primeira
vista' is associated with my name and i believe it translates the main
veins of the project."
