"Betrayal"
"Traição"

The feature film "Betrayal" consists of 3 episodes - each featuring one director - based on 3 short stories written in the late 50´s by Nelson Rodrigues, Brazil´s foremost playwright.

Each episode is a complete story featuring ordinary, urban, family tragedies of everyday´s life. In common, the focus on marriage and betrayal.

Betrayal´s star - studded cast features 6 generations of Brazilian actor, Including Brazil´s Grand Dame Fernanda Montenegro (Best Actress, Berlin Film Festival ´98) - to whom Nelson Rodrigues wrote several of his plays - and Cannes Festival´s Best Actress ´86 Fernanda Torres).

By setting each episode in a particular decade, the directors Arthur Fontes, Claudio Torres and josé Henrique Fonseca - all in their 30´s - give, each, a individual and peculiar rendering of Rodrigues´ obsession with the subject of marriage, family values and moral.

Betrayal mark the film début of TV and advertising directors, Claudio Torres and José Henrique Fonseca. Artur Fontes, ´ firt short film - " Trancado" - won the Best Short Film award in the FestRio festival (Brazil) in 1989 and was shown at the Festival of Sundance (USA).

" I believe Claudio Torres will be in the forefront of the next wave of Brazilian cinema (...) Betrayal´s episode, 'Cachorro!' that José Henrique Fonseca directed and acted in, is probably the most promising debut of the new Brazilian cinema wave" says film director Walter Salles.
