FOOLISH HEART, directed by Hector Babenco, is a production by HB Filmes Ltda (Brazil) in association with Oscar Kramer S.A. (Argentina) and Jean-François Lepetit for Flach Film (France). The film was made with the participation of Canal + ( France), as well as co-produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, TV Cultura and the São Paulo State Cultural Secretariat. The film is distributed in Latin America by Columbia-Sony Pictures.
The shooting began on June 23, 1997 in Buenos Aires. During sixteen weeks, the team worked in 60 different locations in the Argentinean capital and in the suburbs of Mar Del Plata, a seaside resort 400 km from Buenos Aires where Hector Babenco spent his youth. The shooting ended in Rio de Janeiro in October 1997.
FOOLISH HEART is based on the producer's own story, script co-written with the Argentinean writer Ricardo Piglia. Production was assured by Francisco Ramalho (Brazil) and Oscar Kramer (Argentina). Photography was made by Lauro Escorel, the chief scenographer was Carlos Conti, editing was supervised by Mauro Alice and music written by Zhigniew Preisner.
