Don't
get lost in Selfridges
Selfridges
is defined in its site
as "the best, most exciting and
innovatory department store in Europe!"
Modesty from the marketing team totally apart,
it is necessary to know that this phrase is
far from been a lye.
In
the same line of the "overwhelming"
Liberty e Harrod's, but, with a younger posture,
Selfridges has got seven floors. In each one
of them, several options of bars, cafés
and restaurants. On the third, food and (!)
Lebanese, Chinese, Japanese, Thai chefs prepare
specialties in front of the clients. On the
others, the table is arranged in a French or
Italian style.... On the ground, fresh fish
in an impressive variety, besides a bakery with
specialties from all over the world, as well
as, stands with tastes which go from east to
west of the meridian.
The
many square meters dedicated to fashion amazes
for its diversity, mainly at the young designers
and brands area unknown by the big public, named
the LabDesign, on second floor.
Besides
that, more than hundredth of fashion articles
for everybody... Bed, table and bath - with
the right for spa, beauty parlor and massage...
Travel agency, tourist information center, sale
of tickets for spectacles and shows now showing....
"Globalize" wine cellar and supermarket...
Technology, stationery store, tobacco shop...
It
was inaugurated in 1909 by Gordon Selfridges,
the store of Oxford Street (all the block at
the number 400) now attracts more than 17 million
of buyers per year. When everything started,
Mr. Selfridge said: "Selfridges is for
everyone and anyone..." and it could be
translated as: "we have everything, from
everywhere, for every taste. Come in! You won't
leave without buying!"
For
those who intend to come to London and still
don't know the store, it is good to know, you
have to reserve some extra hours for Selfridges,
because it seems unavoidable "to get lost"
there. But is good to be careful: suddenly,
inside there, you remember you still don't know
, for instance, the Tate Modern Gallery and
then, you stand in front of a stand of it...
Think about going to a good book store and finds
out the section of specialized books... You
want to eat in Indian style and can do it inside
there... Wants to feel the smell of the English
parks, the bath section offers you that...
The
store is a small town with pleasures - real
and synthetic - for all senses. And still offers
the Selfridges Hotel, at the end of the Orchard
Street. Therefore, to get lost at Selfridges
certainly takes much time than the forecasted
and it is impossible to imagine tourists who
are satisfied in staying between shopping on
one floor, a restaurant on another, a night
program scheduled there on a third and the landing
in the hotel next to...
London
has much to offer, besides this incredible and
seductive infinitude of products. But...Mr.
Gordon knew well: you won't leave Selfridges
without buying.
