Don't get lost in Selfridges

Selfridges is defined in its site as "the best, most exciting and innovatory department store in Europe!" Modesty from the marketing team totally apart, it is necessary to know that this phrase is far from been a lye.

In the same line of the "overwhelming" Liberty e Harrod's, but, with a younger posture, Selfridges has got seven floors. In each one of them, several options of bars, cafés and restaurants. On the third, food and (!) Lebanese, Chinese, Japanese, Thai chefs prepare specialties in front of the clients. On the others, the table is arranged in a French or Italian style.... On the ground, fresh fish in an impressive variety, besides a bakery with specialties from all over the world, as well as, stands with tastes which go from east to west of the meridian.

The many square meters dedicated to fashion amazes for its diversity, mainly at the young designers and brands area unknown by the big public, named the LabDesign, on second floor.

Besides that, more than hundredth of fashion articles for everybody... Bed, table and bath - with the right for spa, beauty parlor and massage... Travel agency, tourist information center, sale of tickets for spectacles and shows now showing.... "Globalize" wine cellar and supermarket... Technology, stationery store, tobacco shop...

It was inaugurated in 1909 by Gordon Selfridges, the store of Oxford Street (all the block at the number 400) now attracts more than 17 million of buyers per year. When everything started, Mr. Selfridge said: "Selfridges is for everyone and anyone..." and it could be translated as: "we have everything, from everywhere, for every taste. Come in! You won't leave without buying!"

For those who intend to come to London and still don't know the store, it is good to know, you have to reserve some extra hours for Selfridges, because it seems unavoidable "to get lost" there. But is good to be careful: suddenly, inside there, you remember you still don't know , for instance, the Tate Modern Gallery and then, you stand in front of a stand of it... Think about going to a good book store and finds out the section of specialized books... You want to eat in Indian style and can do it inside there... Wants to feel the smell of the English parks, the bath section offers you that...

The store is a small town with pleasures - real and synthetic - for all senses. And still offers the Selfridges Hotel, at the end of the Orchard Street. Therefore, to get lost at Selfridges certainly takes much time than the forecasted and it is impossible to imagine tourists who are satisfied in staying between shopping on one floor, a restaurant on another, a night program scheduled there on a third and the landing in the hotel next to...

London has much to offer, besides this incredible and seductive infinitude of products. But...Mr. Gordon knew well: you won't leave Selfridges without buying.
