Berlin,
1943. A torrid love affair blossoms between two women, despite all of
the dangers and the instability of war in this story based on the novel
by Erica Fischer, written as from the memories of Lilly Wust.
Lilly
is almost thirty years old, the mother of four children, and a good housewife.
She has occasional lovers, while her husband is in the war, however, nothing
that can affect her solid marriage. Felice Schragenheim is a determined
young lady, a militant from the Resistance, infiltrated in a Nazi newspaper
to obtain information on the advancing moves of Hitler's army. She hides
her Jewish roots to stay alive and have free access to the Berlin society.
The two see each other at a concert. Lilly's beauty draws the attention
of Felice who does all she can to keep her nearby and writes her seductive
letters signed Jaguar - passion seizes her unawares that will effect a
radical change in Lilly's life, leading her to abandon her husband.
In
a quiet existence of friendship and love, both women try to forget about
the horrors of war and keep out of conflict until they are engulfed by
brutal reality. One Sunday, having spent the day swimming, playing games
and taking pictures on the banks of the Havel river, they return home
to find the Gestapo in wait of Felice.
