The Pope is on a
visit to Berlin. In addition to affording no divine comfort to its inhabitants,
the night he spends in the city sparks off a series of incidents.
Hanna,
who lives on the streets, is thrilled to come across 100 marks. The money
will enable her to have one night of comfort, in some cheap hotel, together
with her lover. They then embark on a mad odyssey in search of a place
that will accept them.
Farmer
Jochen would like to find a woman and eventually meets up with Patty,
a teenaged prostitute. She suggests they spend the night together. What
might have been just another pleasant escapade ends in violence when Jochen
discovers she is addicted to drugs.
Like these, other characters make their way through the maze of the city:
rich, poor, beggars, the police, street children, and taxi drivers, in
this film that was awarded the Prize for Best Actor (to Michael Gwisdek)
at the Berlin Film Festival/99.
