Documentary
narrated by actress Susan Sarandon that portrays the dramatic trajectory
of Father Roy Bourgeois and his struggle to expose all of the truth about
the notorious American schools for training for torture: Army School of
the Americas (SOA).
In
addition, the film raises issues concerning human rights and intervention
frequent, on the part of the United States, in Latin America, with arguments
from the Pentagon to explain the reasons for maintaining such schools.
The
documentary shows that many of the abuses of human rights on record in
Latin America were committed by men trained by the SOA. Denouncing secret
cases of U.S. involvement, Father Roy and 24 militants were arrested because
of their pacifist protest in demanding that these military schools be
closed. Born in Louisiana and the leader of the campaign, Father Roy was
accused of civil disobedience, and served a sentence of six months in
prison.
What
began as a battle on the part of only one man, became a crusade of thousands
of activists, and won the support of the American Congress that have voted
a cut in funds to SOA.
