The civic drama concerning a beautiful teacher from the provinces to whom the President of Mexico has personally assigned the difficult task of educating the children from a village dominated by a cruel military chief. At the end, the teacher outdoes the strongman, but dies of a heart attack. A Chinese film with a theme very similar, Nenhum a Menos by Zhang Yimou, part of the selection for the 23rd Mostra, was recently awarded the First Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
