Elena, aged 18, comes upon her mother with her lover, all of which drives her father to commit suicide. She looks for a job as a secretary, but all of the men wish to take advantage of her. Famished, gullible, she falls prey to a bawd who gets her drunk, drugs her, and casts her into the dregs of prostitution. Up until such time as she falls in love with a rich young man who wishes to marry her and who introduces her to his mother - no other than the frightful Rosaura, the bawd. Rosaura devises a means to rid herself of Elena.
