Two youngsters from different regions in Turkey join forces in their struggle to survive in Istanbul. Mehmet, who has moved to the big city in search of better opportunities for living and for work has befriended Berzan, a Kurd who sells cassette tapes from a hand barrow. Although he is from the west coast, Mehmet might easily be taken for a Kurd.

He shares his dreams and future plans with Arzu, a young girl employed in a laundry, while Berzan dreams of returning to his girlfriend and to his village on the borders with Irak. In a police raid in a bus, however, Mehmet is imprisoned and held prisoner in jail for over a week. He loses his job and accomodations and can count only on Berzan in his efforts to move on ahead. Loyalty to his friend leads him to embark on a journey the breadth of his country.
