A
well-dressed youth leaps onto a moving train and is on the run. It is
not known why and much less after what or from whom he is running. It
may be in pursuit of memories of an autumn night when, hidden among the
shrubbery, he saw the police arrive, a body taken away on a stretcher,
a girl in a state of shock. Or he may be after the memories of when he
left prison and faced the reality of a modern world. He is running away
from his past, remote and recent.
Frantisek
is deaf. He has spent many years in prison and, when he is released, he
has in his hands only the photograph of his former girl friend, Liza,
to remind him of happier days. He starts on a long journey to find the
woman he loves, but is alone with no help. In his search, he discovers
he is being followed and finds himself in a dangerous game. All he wants
is to find Liza in this world he can not comprehend.
Inspired
in the tradition of the cinèma-verité, the story is filmed in a documental
style, with nonprofessional actors and much room for improvisation, as
a form of allowing real life to enter the narrative. A film trying to
make sense out of a world today, on the incapacity of communication, loneliness,
and also, abuse and manipulation.
