Documentary
that broaches the phenomenon of football and follows along with the achievements
of the Austrian team bound for the 1998 World Cup in France. The preliminary
matches against the Cameroons, Chile, and Italy, are seen through the
eyes of different characters: a reporter, a banker and his mother, a blind
man, an alcoholic, and a coach for a juvenile team.
The
team's victories and defeats are not the most important, but rather the
reaction of people to TV - growing emotion, patriotism, hope, and disillusion.
Austria is not among the great teams in the world, as team managers well
knew. Thus, the best is to stay on the side of the fans, although they
are not aware of the limitations of the team. It is precisely the portrait
of these fans that forms the image of Austria today. Even being passionately
fond of the sport, the director can not but show the excentricities stemming
from this international phenomenon of the media.
