Lola
is running as fast as her legs can carry her, to the sound of the techno
rhythm in the sound track produced by Director Tom Tykwer himself. Her
objective is to save her boyfriend who makes a living carrying money for
a questionable client. One day, things go wrong: he loses his boss's case
with one million deutsche marks inside. Lola will have to find the money.
She must not make a mistake, every detail is of extreme importance, each
second, and each decision weighs on her racing against time.
Pitting
chance against coincidences, Tykwer makes a fascinating and dynamic film.
He tells his story three times, precisely 20 minutes each, thoroughly
exploring the possibilities that arise from this game with time, that
is real in its narrative structure. Lola has twenty minutes to find the
money and save her boyfriend. Frantically using the elements of action
cinema in a blend of animation and technical daring in editing, he challenges
spectators to stay still exploring the enormous consequences of the smallest
of events.
