Daring Portuguese director João César Monteiro retraces the steps of his character João de Deus - very well portrayed in his former film, A Comédia de Deus.

All seems lost. And then, in an ancient, lonely, frozen park, two somber figures meet: João de Deus and a Messenger from God. The tramp, João's provisional state, is given a valise full of money by the Messenger. Once the mission has been accomplished, the celestial figure departs the scene.

While he is counting the notes, João becomes aware of a body stirring in the water. He goes over to see what is going on and finds a girl almost drowning. He draws her out from the water, takes her to a convent, and completely forgets about the valise. Later, even though bereft of all hope, João goes back to the park to try and recover the money: and there it is, intact. And so to further adventures with João de Deus.
