In Naples, in the twenties, during a showing of the film Amore Tragico, Michele identifies himself with the story to the extent that he decides to kill the unfaithful wife. In the flight, he is involved in events in the city, however present-day. Rosa and her mother, Pina, are listening to Neapolitan music that takes them to a world where romantic fantasies are lived as though they were real. Rosa's sister killed her lover the day he married Teresa. Both women - one confined in prison and the other pining for her lost love - see him once more as though he were alive. A prostitute who was witness to the crime, finds the strength to rebel and kill a client without allowing him to reach a climax.

The appearance of Our Lady and of a figure binding past to present are deeply to linked to Neapolitan songs which cast a light on all of the events.
