In an extremely orthodox district in Jerusalem, two sisters react differently to religious precepts and community rules upheld by men.

Meir and Rivka have been married for ten years. They love each other; however, they suffer because they do not have children, which is a source of problems within the community. The rabbi announces his decision: to ensure the lineage, the husband must reject Rivka and marry Haya who can bear him children. The rabbi also decrees that Rivka's sister Malka, is to marry Yossef, his dedicated assistant. Malka, however, is in love with Yaakov, a young singer who has left the community to pursue a career. And she is determined to fight for her love and for her freedom.

Meanwhile, submissive Rivka, abandoned by her husband, plunges into a world of silence and of solitude and lives alone in a small apartment. Malka reacts in another way to the future that has been imposed upon her. She rebels.
