Born in Munich in 1968. Studied history, political science and philosophy in the Free University of Berlin from 1989 to 1993. He subsequently attended the German Film and TV Academy where he graduated in 2000. His end-of-course film, England, was awarded a prize by the association of critics in Germany, with prizes for best script and photography. Borries was also co-script-writer for the film Goodbye, Lenin! (2003, 27th Mostra).
