Majored in Languages and Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and later completed a Master in Arts from the University of Cinema and Television in New York. He made short films - Crackerjack, The Mule, and Precious, awarded prizes at the Rotterdam, Havana, and Cannes Festivals. Santo Domingo Blues is his first feature.
