Born in Stuttgart in 1959. He studied Psychology, and later attended seminars in Directing and Drama at Artist House Bethanien, in Berlin. As from 1989, he has been an active scriptwriter for theater and cinema and an award-winning documentarist. His documentaries include A Winternight's Dream (1992), Balagan (1993) winner of the German Film Award -, The Survivors (1995/96) winner of the main prize at the Munich International Festival of Documentaries and the acclaimed Black Box Germany (2001) for which Veiel received the German Film Award for the kind in 2002. Addicted to Acting won the prize from the public for the Panorama Section of the 54th Berlin Festival.
