Born in Barcelona in 1979, but lived most of his life in Mexico. An afficcionado for cinema as from an early age, he directed his first short film when he was only 14. Years later, he bought a 16 mm camera and made his second short film, Amarrados (2002). The film was highly commended by the critics and shown at several international festivals. He was assistant-director for Battle in Heaven (2005), directed by Carlos Reygadas (whose first feature, Japan, was shown at the 26th Mostra). Sangre is Amat Escalante's first feature.
