Born on October 29, 1954, in Pingtung, Taiwan. He graduated from the National Taiwan College of Arts in 1975, and moved to the United States. He won the Oscar for best foreign film, best sound track, best photography, and best art directing with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, in 2001. Ang Lee was part of several editions of Mostra: at the 16th, with Pushing Hands, his first feature: at the 21st, with The Ice Storm, and at the 24th with Ride with the Devil. Brokeback Mountain won him the Golden Lion at the 2005 Venice Film Festival.
