Born in Vendôme, in September, 1931. He studied cinema at IDHEC and directed his first film, Fire and Ice, in 1962. His first productions were on social and historical issues such as the Algerian war. He then went on to make films that were more intimate such as Martin and Léa (1978). His filmography also includes productions such as The Unvainquished (1964), Heartbeat (1968), Thérèse (1986), Libera Me (1993), La Rencontre (1996), and Lifes (2000), selection for the 24th Mostra.
