Film maker of Armenian descent, born in Cairo, he has been the Canadian director most often included in Mostra. He studied International Policy and Music in Toronto. His first film was Howard in Particular (1979). His first feature was Next of Kin (1984), followed by Family Viewing (1987, 12th Mostra). Speaking Parts (1989, 14th Mostra), The Adjuster (1991, 16th Mostra), Calendar (1993, 17th Mostra), Exotica (1994, 18th Mostra), Bach Cello Suite #4: Sarabande, and The Sweet Hereafter (both from 1997, shown at the 21st Mostra), Felicia’s Journey (1999, 25th Mostra), and Ararat (2001, 26th Mostra).
