Born in Paranavaí, Paraná. He began his career in 1997 with an experimental medium-length film Pobre é Quem não Tem Jipe, winner of the Candango de Revelação prize at the Brasília 30th Film Festival. In 2000, he directed A Velha, Os Meninos e Gato que Escaparam da Estranha Caixa Azul. He was part of the 28th Mostra with The Eigth Colour of the Rainbow, his first feature.
