Born in Spain, in 1950. He majored in history and worked for years as a
literary critic. He began a career in cinema as a scriptwriter with films that,
in particular, include Barrios Altos (1987), Bâton Rouge (1988), Alone
Together (1990), and Belmonte (1995). Nobody Will Speak of Us When Were Dead (1995) was his first film as director and won the Prize from the Jury at the San Sebastián Festival. In 2001, he directed No News from God, screened at the 28th Mostra.
