Everything is Illuminated (2005)
USA
Jonathan is a young American Jew on his way to the Ukraine in search of the woman who saved his grandfather's life in World War II. He is assisted in his endeavors by Alex Perchov, an unreliable translator who is more of a bind than a helper, and by Alex's grandfather - an ill-humored driver invariably in the company of his ill-smelling, unruly dog, christened Sammy Davis Jr. In the course of the trip, this unusual foursome discover secrets of the Nazi occupation and the cumplicity of the Ukranian government at the time.
