Competition - New Directors
Alma Mater (2004)
Uruguay
Pamela is a shy, lonely cashier in a supermarket. At the age of 34, her only social activities are daily visits to her autistic mother in hospital and attendance at an evangelical church with a Brazilian pastor (Brazilian actor Werner Schünemann). Her life changes radically when she begins to perceive strange signs that she believes are divine. Pamela can see messages from God in everything: in her dreams, in bar codes, in the customers, and in her own mother. She is a virgin and is soon led to believe she has been chosen to be mother to Christ, in a new incarnation.
