Daniel Dareus is a conductor of international renown. In private, however, he feels lonely, miserable, and weary from the demands his lifestyle makes on him. Some time later, he undergoes a psychological and emotional shock such that he abruptly interrupts his career and returns to his own country, in Sweden. He is invited to be part of the church choir and cannot refuse. To his surprise, in these rehearsals, he discovers his love for music once more. He makes friends, makes some enemies and, also, finds a new love.
