Competition - New Directors
Le Grand Voyage (2005)
France / Marocco
Weeks before his college entrance exams, Réda, a young Moslem living in the South of France finds himself under obligation to take his father on a journey to the Holy City of Mecca. The boy and his father have nothing in common. Dialog is reduced to a bare minimum. The boy wants to experience the journey his way. His father, however, demands respect and attention. They travel the length of several countries and meet people from every walk of life, but keep up a cautious relationship. How could they establish bonds of communication with nothing in common between them? Traveling thousands of kilometers throughout Italy, Serbia, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, as far as Saudi Arabia, the odyssey for father and son generates room for many a discovery.
