A waitress ill-treated by her mother, molested by customers and by dock workers, shyly relates to Jean, the son of a washerwoman who dreams of other horizons. One kiss from Jean and all is destroyed: the frightened girl sends her suitor away, and he is so much saddened, he throws himself into the sea.
