Retrospectiva Alberto Cavalcanti
SIMON THE ONE-EYED (1952)
BRAZIL
The story of a one-eyed broker who would like to recover his lost eye by whatever means. For such, he goes as far as to submit to the experiments of a crazy inventor. The new eye he is fitted with gives him special powers such as to be invisible. He becomes a millionaire with horse-racing, becomes involved with magnates in the beef trade, decides to enter into politics, and is elected President of the Republic. The film was produced by Cinematográfica Maristela one year after Cavalcanti left Vera Cruz, for which he had come to Brazil - to assist in setting up the film studios.
