MULHER DE VERDADE (1954)

BRAZIL

Bamba, a good-for-nothing, fractures his skull in a tussle with the police. In hospital, he falls in love with a nurse, Amélia, whom he would like to marry once he is out of prison. After one last swindle, Bamba changes his life and marries Amélia. She must, however, conceal the fact she is married so as not to violate the regulations of the hospital where she works. In her dissatisfaction, she uses her unusual working hours to marry another boy, and leads a double life. During a fire, Bamba saves his wife from the blaze. A party is being organized as a tribute to him. The occasion will be decisive for Amélia.
