THEY MADE ME A FUGITIVE (1946/1947)
ENGLAND
The script for this filme noir is based on the novel “A Convict Has Escaped”, by Jackson Budd, but preserves from the original only the main premise - the condemned prisoner who escapes from jail. Clem Morgan, an ex-officer of the Royal Air Force (RAF) can not adapt to civilian life. He joins a gang of smugglers who deal in liquor, cigarettes, and drugs in coffins, with a funeral parlor for a facade. The leader of the gang, however, Narcy, forges the murder of a policeman and manages to cast the blame on Clem: he also takes away his girlfriend. Sentenced to 15 years in the remote prison of Dartmoor, Clem is encouraged by Narcy’s jilted ex-girlfriend to escape. He makes it and is after revenge.
