Born in 1951, in Antaliepte, Soviet Union, today Lithuania. Director and scriptwriter, he began his career making amateur films. In 1974, he graduated from the Moscow Film School. He made his first feature with Stasi Motiejunas. His films include: The Devil’s Seed (1979), winner of the All-Union Film Festival in 1980; The Woman and Her Four Men (1984), winner of the All-Union Film Festival in 1984; Ticket to Taj Mahalo (1990), winner of the Jury Prize at the Munich International Film Festival; Hit by Lightning (1995); Wolf-Teeth Necklace (1997), and Elze’s Life (2000).
