Directors
Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1974. Studied biology at the Catholic University, a profession she did not pursue, as of 1994, in order to study cinema in Cuba. There, she made short films and documentaries in 16mm that were shown at a number of festivals. In 1999, she moved to Chicago, where she did experimental work and made small items of fiction on video. Play is her first prize-winning feature: among others, she won four prizes from the Chilean Academy for Cinema (film, directing, costume, and art directing) and this was the Best First Film at the Havana Film Festival, and won the Prize for First-Timer Director at the Tribeca Film Festival, New York. She also won the Glauber Rocha Prize at the Montreal Film Festival.
