Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1966. He began his career in 1986, at the age of 17, writing and directing La Canción de la Montana, his first feature. In 1997, he made Una Vida y Dos Mandados, winner of the Prize for Best Directing at the New York Film Festival. In 2001, he made Una Casa con Vista para o Mar, winner, of among others, the Glauber Rocha Prize with Special Mention from the Foreign Press at the Havana Film Festival and the Prize from the Public at the Huelva and Fribourg Film Festivals. He also directed Habana, Havana (2004).
