Born in 1957 in Orimattila, Finland. He was part of the 14th Mostra with The Match Factory Girl, of 1990. He was the subject of a retrospective of his films in their entirety at the 15th Mostra with such as Crime and Punishment (1983), Ariel (1988), Leningrad Cowboys Go America (1990), and I Hired a Contract Killer (1990). He was part of the 16th Mostra with La Vie de Bohème and Those Were the Days (both from 1992). Total Balalaika Show (1993), Take Care of Your Scarf, Tatiana (1993), and Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses (1994) were included in the selection for the 18th Mostra. He was part of the 20th Mostra with Drifting Clouds (1996), winner of the Audience Award. Juha (2000) was shown at the 25th Mostra and The Man Without a Past (2002) at the 26th Mostra. In the 28th Mostra, he was part of a collective project, Visions of Europe (2004).
