After the Wedding (2005)
Denmark
Jacob Petersen is trying his best to keep an orphanage going in one of the poorest regions in India. When the institution is running the risk of closing down, he has a message to go back to Denmark, for a rich entrepreneur wishes to make a donation with which he will be able to solve his problem. Meanwhile, in Kopenhagen, Jorgen is living an almost idyllic existence with his wife and children. A shrewd business man, he is also a devoted father, however indulgent to the point of bluntness when the subject is not his family. He is not there at the pre-arranged meeting for which Jacob had traveled, because he is busy, at the time, discussing details for his daughter's wedding. This sequence of events is to change all of their lives, forever. The film broaches a crucial dilemma from our times. The smaller our world with globalization, the greater the gap between rich and poor.
