FAAP’S FILM SCHOOL DEBATES THE CRITICS FUNCTION IN ITS MASTER’S DEGREE COURSE

For the second year, the Master’s degree in Cinema Critics is open at FAAP (Faculdade Armando Alvares Penteado). The objective is to offer a global understanding of the language of critics in its various ages and trends, aiming at the formation of critical texts, the curacy of movies, the use of films as pedagogical tools, and the development of research at different levels. The program consists of a dense load of cinema history and language, a view of the contemporary trends. It also approaches the main theories of the subjects dedicated to reflecting upon the cinema, such as psychoanalysis, sociology, philosophy and semiotics.

The Cinema School of FAAP was founded in 1976 and is an important diffusion and discussion pole of this art. Its collection of films is one of the most important ones in the country, with rare copies of Brazilian and global productions. It has shown the most important Brazilian films, besides organizing and holding international thematic exhibitions. In partnership with São Paulo International Film Festival, FAAP has organized, these last few years, lectures, workshops and exhibitions with foreign directors such as Amos Gitai, Abbas Kiarostami, Manoel de Oliveira, Danis Tanovic, Bahman Ghobadi and Wolfgang Becker. The 2007 and 2008 events and all its pedagogical structure will be available for the students of the Cinema Critics Master’s degree.

The course is expected to begin on March 23rd, 2007, lasting 18 months and is open to anyone who has a degree in any area. Besides FAAP’s Cinema professors, the program includes the participation of movie critics like Rubens Ewald Filho, Luiz Carlos Merten, Leon Cakoff and Sergio Rizzo.
