HALF OF SELECTION FROM USA OR ENGLISH SPOKEN

Venice Festival, the oldest of all, announces the films selected for the competition at its 64th edition (August 29 – September 8 / 2007). Half of the 22 features in the list is either a North American production or is spoken in English. Two of its Leone d’Oro trophies will distinguish Italian master Bernardo Bertolucci and the American. Another homage will be paid to German Alexander Kluge. The great retrospective has been programmed to rescue the popular western all’italiana, a very popular gender in the 1960’s and 70’s, which levered Italian cinema industry and spread around the world.


The films in competition follow:


By Joe Wright, Atonement – Great Britain / USA, 123’, with Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Vanessa Redgrave, Romola Garai, Brenda Blethyn. This film will open the 64th Venice Festival.
