MUTUM (2006)
Brazil
The word “mutum” means dumb. Mutum is a black bird that sings only at night. And Mutum is also the name of an isolated place in the Minas Gerais hinterland where Thiago lives with his family. Thiago is ten years old and is not a boy like the others. The nebulous world of adults with treachery, violence, and silence is seen through his eyes. Together with Felipe, his brother and only friend, Thiago will be confronted with this world that he will have to learn to leave behind. The script is based on the “Miguilim” chapter from Campo Geral, by João Guimarães Rosa.
