I Concurso Internacional de Canto Bidu Sayão 2000
Objetivo é abrir caminhos / The objective is to pave ways
A realização de um concurso não deve ser valorizada apenas pela definição dos ganhadores. É claro que os vencedores têm o seu inegável mérito pela qualidade com que resolveram musicalmente as várias possibilidades de repertório.
Na nossa visão, entretanto, o Concurso Bidu Sayão tem como objetivo identificar novas possibilidades, independente da classificação deste ou daquele candidato e, principalmente, oferecer oportunidades de trabalho futuro aos bons cantores presentes. Afinal, o que desejarmos é facilitar aos cantores brasileiros e estrangeiros participantes o desenvolvimento de carreiras sólidas aqui e no exterior. Esta sinergia é que garantirá o reconhecimento do próprio concurso, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento do gênero no Brasil.
Quando criamos o concurso em Janeiro de 1999, prevendo sua realização em 2000, encontramos na SECULT-Pará não apenas o desejo de fazer algo semelhante, mas também a vontade institucional, os recursos humanos, histórico de ações de qualidade em música e a força motora capaz de criar e ampliar objetivos. Este caminho, traçado a várias mãos, e que permitirá consolidar largos benefícios futuros e estabelecer parâmetros de ação.

The realization of a contest shall not be celebrated only by the winners definition. Of course, the winners have their undeniable merit fur the quality musically shown with the several repertory possibilities.
In our vision, however, the Bidu Sayão Contest has the goal to identify new possibilities irrespective of the classifications of this or that contestant and, especially to offer future work opportunities to the good singers there. After all, what we wish is to make easy to both Brazilian and foreign singers participating the development of solid careers here and abroad. This synergy shall guarantee the recognition of the contest itself thus contributing to the development of this area in Brazil.
When we created the con test in January 1999, with its realization in 2000 in mind, we found in SECULT-Pará not only the wish to do something similar, but also the institutional wish, the human resources, with an history of quality actions in music, and a moving power able to create and enlarge objectives. It is this path, traced by many hands, that will allow for the consolidation of large future benefits and the establishment action parameters.
