The III Bidu Sayão International Vocal Competition
has achieved a large improvement in relation to its previous
editions. In addition to the financial resources from the
Pará State Government through SECULT - Secretaria Executiva
de Cultura (Culture Executive Office) the contest now has
the sponsorship from Amazônia Celular, which has allowed
for the enlargement of the total amount of rewards to R$ 71.000,00.
Additionally, in 2002 all the ten finalists (five in each
category) will be awarded cash rewards. Another innovation
is the recognition to the singing teacher of the two candidates
qualifying in the first place at the competition final, by
means of both certification and a public announcement of their
participation in the contest.
Also the presentation place has gained in addition. So far the contest used to be held only at the Teatro Maria Sylvia Nunes. Starting in 2002 all the qualification rounds will be mantained at that same theatre. Both the final round for the selection of the winners and the awarding recital will be held at the Theatro da Paz, reopened in April 2002, following the completion of an ample restoration and reform project.
With these novelties we are now seeking for wider reach and
more visibility for the competition in the expectation that
its realization may in fact be contributing for the positive
identification of new voices either in Brazil or abroad, thus
providing for the interchange for the professionals involved.
