10- HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A CAREER

Versão em Português

UpToDate - For an artist like you that reached the big landing you are on, how can you be careful with ego trips in order not to spoil a career prematurally, as unfortunately it's often the case?

Chico Cesar - Ego itself has been present at any people's life in any profession. I think you got to know that what you do is not exactly something you do. I mean, it passes through you but it doesn't necessarily belong to you. Of course, you deserve the credit and you can't hide that merit behind false modesty. The fact of the matter is to notice that something passed through you, as an agent, and it must reach the people. In this process, it doesn't start on you and don't even finish on you, and also it's not for you.

UpToDate - You mean, you would be a kind of an instrument for that.

Chico Cesar - Precisely. I even wrote a melody, it's not recent, called "SangueBook" (BloodBook, a pun with SongBook) that says: This is my BloodBook / Book of songs / Nectar of my bones / I come to the world to offer that / Like someone burning sheeps / Like someone licking stars / My work my manure / All that I dispose of / Track, rope braided, shadow / I've done that / Comes from me but it's not me / Offering / I wanted to divide the snack / Snack given to me by life /

So, actually, it's been given to me. I'm passing that on. If I put myself into that place then I may realize my size.
