Any approach to the career of Zizi Possi at this moment must go through something undeniable that only emphasizes the status she earned, of being one of today's most important and sophisticated Brazilian female singers.

That something is the fact of her having sailed for eighteen years on the stormy and unpredictable sea of Brazilian music without ever giving up the fight for the integrity of her musical point of view.

Whenever she was within the context of popularity or momentarily adrift from the musical circunstances Brazilian music had been through, specially in the Eighties, Zizi Possi built a musical career that is solid and acknowledged by the audience and the press.

Brazilian music is often like a tightrope, and walking stadily on it is an asset to Zizi's personality, not only her poetical and musical personality, but above all her demanding personality, as usual like the artists that are intelligent and unhappy with the constant limitations imposed by people, companies and situations. Zizi definetely means business.

With a singular timbre and outstanding vocal technique, São Paulo-born Zizi could let loose her delicateness and the exquisite and intimate universe of her own personality. After thirteen records on many companies, Zizi Possi still goes on building the ways of her musical objectivity. So maybe it's not a coincidence that her new record is called Mais Simples (More Simple).

To he or she who tries to decipher the simple, direct and suave formula to this Mais Simples, Zizi herself makes it clear: "Nothing is more sophisticated than simplicity".

The apparent simplicity and nakedness hide the musical sophistication that results from a long time of hard work. That explains why Zizi Possi is able to expand her space and influence on the muscial scene. It works to the advantage of the lovers of her work. The fans' ears follow her musical sophistication.

UpToDate has the pleasure of finally inaugurating this privileged space for special interviews with one of the biggest singers of today's Brazilian music.

Through this interview, carried at PolyGram's São Paulo office, we had the opportunity to register the good-humoured, unworried, critic and sophisticated of Zizi Possi.

Tranquil of speech and very feminine, she talked about work, musical market, her latest disc, female singers, concerts, an international career, Internet and even football.

And now, a bit of Zizi Possi.
